back from taiwan odyssey
would have gone to North Korea and Tianjin (to visit TEP 07 buddy) if OB something didn't come up. so taiwan it was. to fit in with OBI training schedule. but unfortunately...
and then my mom wants a Hokkaido winter expedition during Christmas nxt yr. so tianjin will have to wait.
okay but taiwan was fun. even though it's my second time there in 3 years.
watched Brokeback Mountain on the plane there. very touching show (punt intended). but it seriously is also touching.
we had bullet train ride on the Taiwan High Speed Rail. and also a ride on the older Pacific Coast Railway.
traveled to the northernmost and southernmost tip of the island. didn't go to those extremes last time there. the wind at the north was epic. never once had i slept with the wind rattling on the hotel room's balcony door so relentlessly. the south had good beaches. went for go-karting and a sunset bike trip.
had a ride on the world's 3rd fastest elevator up the Kaohsiung 85 Tower. 600 m/min.
then there was this Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village with a free-fall tower. damn fun. and archery too.
food was good. especially smelly beancurd. got a golden Nike basketball shorts.
they serve a good mango ice dessert. and the roadside dessert stalls serve gargantuan strawberry ice kachang more than half the height of a 500ml bottle.
and on the plane home, even though there were 170 empty seats in Economy cos it was an extra flight, for some reason my family had a free upgrade to Business Class. shiok.
there were many other delights on this trip. one of them was our tour guide. the best guide in my many overseas vacations so far.
